Biography

Rick Dupea began playing guitars in 1969. He has written literally hundreds of songs and musical pieces, including film scores, love songs, classical and jazz arrangements, and broadway style show tunes. He has also been a recording engineer, film editor and marketing consultant for Fortune 500 companies. But his first and lasting creative love is guitar.

For 2012 he has committed to improvising, recording and releasing a new guitar track every day - 365 songs in a year. "They're all rough, with lots of minor flaws still in place, but the essence is to create a new melody, groove or chord structure every day and not let the mistakes get in the way of brainstorming fresh music," he writes to his fans. "This is an experiment in creativity. Sooner or later I'm going to run out of ideas, and then it will get interesting. New tunings, strange new instruments, ethnic vibes, stylistic mashups: something cool is going to happen."

The Song-A-Day podcast is available in the iTunes music store as a free subscription, or at his podcast site web.me.com/cre8tv/CD_Projects/A_Song_A_Day.html, which includes original photography and a description of each track (including warnings to avoid a bad day's attempt, and explanations of extraneous background sounds.)

The songs are a fresh look behind the creative process, recorded live with minimal editing or cleanup. There are several beautiful examples of finger style acoustic and electric guitar playing and melodic and harmonic invention.

The January improvs are now available on CD (except the copyrighted material like 'Let it snow', and a few regrettable improvs not worth reinflicting upon the public.) Check the website for details.
