Biography

Formed in the cold Northwest in February of 2008, this Tacoma, Washington band boasts a family of musicians. Brothers Dave and Dan Moore, their cousin, Craig Saner, and their long time friend and fellow musician, Jon Thorn make up From the Sea. Struggling to make something of the music scene after years of playing in ska and reggae, rock, punk and metal bands, they decided it was time for a change. They wanted to create catchy music that people can relate to, but still maintain a heavy, yet earthly sound. From the Sea was going to be different. Straying from the norm, they added piano, synth, strings and four part vocal harmonies to a palette of heavy, crunching guitars, pounding bass and thundering drums. The end product of this unique combination is dynamic and certainly does not sit still. It moves with the tides, sliding along the current's rapid flow. They go where their music takes them; whether it brings out sadness or joy, love or hate, loss or perseverance, they make it their own and give it that certain electricity that binds it together.
Their first EP, self titled From the Sea, demonstrates their musical dynamics and ability to make even a four song demo sound epic. It opens with "The Way I Was Found,” a tragic love story, exhibiting high energy guitar work, piano, and a vocal driven, vast ending. The album concludes with "Lulled by The Waves,” a tale of an adventure at sea, featuring cello, piano, atmospheric guitar work and a powerfully building climax.
Their recently released second EP, Here Come the Wolves, has elevated the band to a different level. The songs are shorter and to the point, yet retain the same expansive sound and epic quality. The opening title track, "Here Come the Wolves", is about self struggle and the glory of overcoming challenges. It brings an almost Egyptian quality to a quick, driving song and is packed full of different vocal work, piano, bass distortion and ethereal guitars. "This Is Desperation,” a fan favorite, is a truly lively and emotional song about a tragic plane crash. It features organ/keyboards and dramatic four part vocals. Even though it is a heavy song, it retains a cool, jazzy feeling throughout. "When It's Over," a darkened love song; "I Won't Leave," a three minute escalading tower of pounding guitars and symphony; and "We Are Snakes," another fan favorite, fulfill the EP and complete the roller coaster ride that is Here Come The Wolves. Owing to the fact that they know each other so well, From the Sea’s musical composition falls into place with ease. Striving to set themselves apart; doing something from the heart, from the earth, from the sea. They are the breath of fresh air the Northwest has been keeping quiet...until now.
