1. Localization Not Occupation is a gathering that connects the dots between the Afghanistan occupation, the increasing inequality at home & the movement towards greater local responsibility. By itself, demanding that the politicians and corporations, both of whom are profiting from the war, end the war, is not enough. Localization builds community strength & demands we the people end the war & occupation directly. Music, speakers, and a special skype session with Afghan youth are scheduled. 1 - 7 p.m., free, Sylvester Park, downtown Olympia.

2. The Washington Center is excited to bring back the famed multiphonic singers of Tibet’s Drepung Loseling Monastery, who will perform their "Sacred Music Sacred Dance for World Healing" as the culmination of a week in Olympia creating a Sand Mandala at The Center. At the end of the performance today, the monks will destroy the Mandala and there will be a public procession to Percival Landing to give the sand to the sea in order to spread the message of peace & healing. 2 p.m., $12-$36, Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. S.E.(360) 753-8586.

3. Chelsea O'Sullivan, former sexiest server as voted by Volcano readers, will show release her amazing new artwork for the year tonight at the Swiss. 6 - 8 p.m., 1904 Jefferson Avenue Tacoma,(253) 572-2821.

4. Shereen LaPlantz is an internationally recognized book artist and author. Her work has been represented in countless gallery exhibitions and museums throughout the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Europe and Africa. Her basketry or Artists’ Books are represented in numerous permanent collections, including The National Museum of Women in the Arts. An exhibition of the artist's personal collection of handmade books and teaching materials are on display at Collins Memorial Library, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. Warner St., CMB 1021(253) 879-3669.

5. Come on down to King's Books and join in celebrating the release of The South Sound User's Guide. With over a million people, 3,000 square miles of natural beauty and vibrant cities, an adventurous history and unique arts and culture, Washington's South Puget Sound is emerging as a distinct cultural and economic region.
