CHINESE RECONCILIATION PAGODA MOON FESTIVAL

Email Blog Post Print Blog Post Share on Facebook Share on Reddit Share on StumbleUpon

There are two important things to know here: 1) That Tacoma has a very pretty Chinese Reconciliation Park at the far southeastern end of Ruston Way. 2) That at this pretty little park there will be a fantastic Pagoda Moon Festival upon today, September 29, from 2 to 9 p.m.

Got that? Good. Because there will be a quiz later.

The festival is free and welcomes everyone in to celebrate all things Chinese culture. There will be food and Chinese gifts for purchase as well as much festival fanfare. At 2 p.m., Mayor Strickland, a color guard, dragon boats, lion dances, and more will help kick off the start of the festival.

Throughout the day, activities aplenty will keep you busy. Learn how to write and say your name in Chinese, ride in a rickshaw, join in a tea ceremony, or watch a performance. Performances throughout the day include the Moon Legend (2 p.m.); Chinese opera (6:30 p.m.); and a lantern parade (8 p.m.).

The end of the night is sure to be magical. After the lantern parade will be a moon cake eating ceremony before the festival sends up 35 Chinese lanterns to say farewell to the Moon Princess.
