Does running a 3K make you shudder? Are your cupboards bare except for creamed corn not worthy for families in need? Still want to do something to make a difference? Well then, this is the event for you. The Booze Crew Pub Crawl is fundraising and fun. The title is a good start but doesn't begin to say it all, and proceeds go to benefit United Way Pierce County.
The Weekly Volcano has partnered with United Way and coordinated a pub crawl through some of Tacoma's finest establishments serving up brews. The event begins at the Harmon Tap Room, located on St. Helens Avenue, on Saturday. The event festivities take you through the streets to local favorites such as the beer kings at the Parkway Tavern, hot spot The Corner Bar (also affectionately known at Hanks) and finishes up at Doyle's Pub. Pre-registration is a mere $10 and only $15 day of the event, with a 100 percent the proceeds benefiting United Way.
"What difference can $10 make ... it can provide either 200 hours of respite services for a family caregiver, 44 backpacks of food for the weekend for school children in need, a month of childcare for a low-income parent, an entire year of dental visits for an uninsured low-income individual or facilitate school readiness for 10 children," said Sean Armentrout of United Way. "So think of the difference we can make collectively, all while having a good time."
This isn't your mama's pub crawl, as organizers plan on keeping it exciting with loads of prizes, including a certificate for an hour massage and two gift cards to local restaurants for the best costumed crawler.
"During the crawl, participants will be building a poker hand - and the best hand will win a prize package with a $500 value," Armentrout says. "It includes three-course dinner at Pacific Grill, a private wine tasting party, Hello Cupcake gift card, two passes to the LeMay Museum and two $50 gift cards. There will also be a raffle drawing for more prizes at the afterparty at Doyle's."
As though good company, a good cause and good drinks aren't reward enough, there are prizes! There's a fundraiser for every occasion, it seems - including the social butterflies who love their liquor.
Event registration starts at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, beginning at the Harmon Tap Room.
