Cryptatropa comes alive with music tonight in Olympia. File photo
1. Victoria Maxwell stars in her critically acclaimed one-woman show, "That's Just Crazy Talk" and workshop "Wilderness Tips for the Comeback Trail." 'That's Just Crazy Talk' describes Victoria's journey coming to terms with mental illness within herself and in her family. It also portrays the love and resilience it takes to stay together as a family in the midst of illness and the beauty that can result when we face our demons. It's rapid-fire lunacy - blink and you'll miss something hilarious or heartbreaking. Following her show, Victoria will present a two-hour workshop, "Wilderness Tips for the Comeback Trail: Reclaiming Joy and Balance." Victoria offers simple yet effective tools to help individuals move forward on their mental health recovery journey. 1 p.m. free, Rialto Theater, 310 S. 9th St. (253) 591-5894.
2. Tyler Budge teaches interdisciplinary studio arts at the University of Washington in Tacoma. His current work explores the social construction of masculinity in male children. His sculptural installations reference metaphors represented by objects or images to autobiographically address personal experience. Free with membership, $5-$12, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Museum of Glass, 1801 Dock Street, Tacoma,(253) 396-1768.
3. Help support Free Radio Olympia. BBQ, drinks, and music - Oly style. Doctor Sleep, George Layne, Visiting Nurses and special guests. 7 p.m., $3 - $10 donation, Track House, 511 7th Ave, Olympia.
4. Jeremy Gregory is an artist known for his dark narrative paintings, but what happens when the paintings transform into the 3-D realm? A little over a year ago Jeremy dove head first into a whole new medium. Posable “puppets” (for lack of a better word). Since the very first one Jeremy has been obsessed with creating, not only the character but props, personalities, and back stories for each. His new work has graced the cover of the Weekly Volcano twice, and also the cover of the Vex zine. He has just started work on a music video that should be finished in late fall, and he has finished production on a stop animation short that will debut at his exhibition in August where many of his puppets will be on display. 12 - 6 p.m. Bherd Studios Urban Contemporary Art Gallery: 8537 Greenwood Ave. N, Suite 1., Seattle, (206) 234-8348.
