New Year's Eve in the South Sound

A legitimate excuse for frivolous hedonism comes but once a year, so the Weekly Volcano says make the most of it. Don a silly hat (everyone else will look stupid, too), pop a magnum of champagne and blow your horn: 2006 is finally done.

Whether you want to dine, dance, drink or disco the night away, we've rounded up a plethora of parties so you won't be left on the couch watching "Friends" reruns, wondering where yours are.  Check it out here. â€" Brad Allen

Kickstand Cafe open mic

Aspiring acoustic performers, poets, and storytellers: unite, and take over the Kickstand Café.  Last night around 8:30 p.m. one guy read out loud sans PA.  Sad.

The Kickstand Café hosts an open mic every Saturday night.  Work out your new material.  Or just jump into the game.  A strong open mic scene feeds a strong music scene. â€" Susy Stump

No more all-ages shows at Bob's Java Jive

I smell another benefit.

According to the Bob's Java Jive staff last night, there's a reason why The Hall's MySpace page, the one that announced all-ages sows at the Jive, now says terrible things about the tea pot shaped venue.  The all-ages shows were 86'd because someone stole the karaoke machine, their main source of entertainment the peeps.

They don't have a PA system anymore so musicians have to bring their own.  â€" Brad Allen

Here comes the bride ... and the pizza

A couple will be married at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza on Jefferson Avenue at midnight tonight.  I bet they will have a Crazy Train pizza at the reception. â€" Suzy Stump
