Downtown Tacoma's only nonprofit, independent movie theater is proud to once again announce an annual Back to School admission special during the month of September for students and educators. Throughout the entire month of September, admission to any film screening will cost only $5.50 for K-12 and higher-education students, teachers and administrators. Tickets must be purchased at the box office, and a valid school ID must be presented to receive this discount.

For the past several years, The Grand has celebrated the month of September as a time to reward educators and pupils. "As a regular collaborator with local teachers, education nonprofits, and area colleges and universities, The Grand continuously seeks to be an active partner in education and arts access," said Executive Director Philip Cowan. "Additionally, we're also just big cheerleaders of our community's youth and educators and this discount is a way for us to say ‘thank you,' ‘we're behind you,' and ‘best of luck' as they head back to school," continued Cowan.

Led by a volunteer board of directors, small staff team, and a multitude of volunteers, The Grand Cinema has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to introducing Pierce County students to independent film. Throughout the 2014-15 school year, The Grand partnered on independent film screenings with roughly two dozen different local schools, including University of Washington-Tacoma, Tacoma Community College, School of the Arts, Lincoln High School, Jason Lee Middle School and Annie Wright Schools.

To receive the discount, eligible patrons must bring a current school ID card to The Grand Cinema box office at the time of their ticket purchase (this discount does not apply to online ticket sales).  Regular priced tickets to films at The Grand are $10 for evenings and $8 for matinees with $2 off for students, seniors and armed servicemembers, and $2.50 off for Grand Cinema members.
