Opening Sept. 18: Hellions
Look, there's surely no way that Hellions will be raking in the awards, but I will tell you this: judging by the trailer, this flick is bat-s--- insane. This is the kind of bonkers horror movie that will retroactively make The Conjuring try your patience. Demon children come around and try and take the baby out of the womb of a pregnant woman, and I'm pretty sure that's just scratching the nuts-o surface.

Opening Sept. 18: Black Mass
Unlike Hellions, which seems to come from the mind of a 15-year-old subscriber to Fangoria, Black Mass is a star-studded prestige picture that seems to mostly function as a way of getting Johnny Depp as far away from Tim Burton as possible. Depp stars as the real-life mobster Whitey Bulger. Expect tough-guy talk and people getting kicked to death.

Opening Oct. 2: The Martian
Based on the critically acclaimed hard sci-fi novel, The Martian follows astronaut Matt Damon, who gets stuck on Mars after a mission gone awry. Unlike the regrettable Mission to Mars, though, this one actually seems like it'll be good. Will he be able to survive the four years it'll take for his crewmates to return and rescue him?

Opening Oct. 2: The Walk
In what is surely to be one of the least essential adaptations of all time, The Walk is Robert Zemeckis' attempt at fictionalizing the already compelling Man on Wire, which documented French high-wire artist Phillip Petit's attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. At least he's not doing those creepy motion-capture animated movies anymore.

Opening Oct. 2: Legend
Tom Hardy pulling double duty as two brutal, real-life twin gangsters in London? Sign me up.

Opening Oct. 9:
Pan
This one better be good, because the title practically writes Entertainment Weekly's punny headline should it suck. The story of Peter Pan gets revisited by the formally exquisite director Joe Wright. Has this material had enough gritty reboots? Personally, I trust Wright, so we'll see if his reimagining is sufficiently magical.

Opening Oct. 23: Rock the Kasbah
Bill Murray makes his return to comedy with Barry Levinson's story of a rock manager who gets stranded in Kabul when his client goes AWOL. This one could go either way, but I'm willing to follow Murray to the ends of the earth, even if Levinson's output is wildly uneven. Still, Wag the Dog excuses a few missteps, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Opening Nov. 6: Trumbo
Another true-life story, this one concerning Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston), a screenwriter in the ‘40s whose career was effectively ended when he was blackballed in the days of McCarthyism.

Opening Nov. 6: Spectre
It's James Bond. You know if you're gonna see this one opening day or not.

Opening Nov. 6: The Peanuts Movie
Alright, emotions will be running high for this one. A lot of feelings are wrapped up in the Peanuts gang, for a lot of people. Judging by the trailers, though, this new adaptation seems to honor the whimsy and melancholy that made Peanuts so special to begin with. For a lot of people, though, the CG animation is a deal breaker. Personally, I have high hopes. Don't ruin this one for me, Hollywood!
