Sumner isn't necessarily the kind of place you'd find by accident. It's not on the way to anywhere. It doesn't have any noteworthy attractions. It's rural and tiny. However, if you're shopping for furniture, Sumner suddenly becomes the destination to consider. Why? Because Old Cannery Furniture is there - and Old Cannery is a furniture store unlike any other you'll find in the South Sound. Whether you're sprucing up your living room, in need of a new mattress or decking out your kid's room, Old Cannery is a great furniture store for many reasons. Here are but five.

1. Great Customer Service

Unless you're interested in Ikea, it's difficult to find a no-hassle furniture store. Most furniture stores involve aggressive salespeople on your tail the moment you enter the store, but Old Cannery strives to offer actual customer service instead of blatant sales tactics. Wander the store without being hassled, or ask all the questions you'd like - either way the staff is happy to help. If you make a purchase and aren't satisfied, the staff is equally as helpful to make sure you remain a happy customer.

2. Expansive Selection and Great Prices

The store is actually located in an old cannery factory, and at more than 500,000 square feet, the facility is huge. While the store remains family owned and local, the selection can compete with any national chain and, if the store doesn't stock something, staff can usually order it for you. Departments in the store stock everything from living room couches to mattresses to kid's furniture to carpets galore. The quality of merchandise is generally high, and prices are fair to great. In fact, if you find the same product elsewhere for cheaper within 30 days of purchase, Old Cannery has a 120 percent of the difference money-back guarantee.

3. Old Cannery Fudge Factory

The store is large. You'll need provisions to make it through. Old Cannery Fudge Factory is on-site and serves more than 20 flavors of fudge, all freshly made and all delicious. Several of the flavors are even sugar free. To up the coolness factor, the fudge shop is inside a 103-year-old tree that fell down in 1993, so you can pretend to be a Keebler elf while you're at it. The shop also sells candy.

4. Trains

Most furniture stores are not especially kid friendly. Furniture shopping simply isn't very interesting to young children, but Old Cannery tries to remedy that and does a great job. Exhibit A - Fudge. Exhibit B - Trains! Throughout the store, a quarter mile of G-gauge train track runs directly overhead, and the store claims this is the largest model railroad west of the Mississippi. Kids (and grownups who think this is cool, too) can watch the trains pass by throughout the store, or head to the viewing platform for better views.

5. Sales

Old Cannery's prices are usually great, but if that's not good enough, head to the store on a holiday, when there are often sales. Coming up is an especially large Memorial Day sale, complete with an outdoor tent sale, free hot dogs, financing specials and more. Another similar sale will take place on Independence Day. Most holidays also see the store decorated from head to toe, inside and outside.

Hand-in-hand with sales are financing deals, which include zero interest deals. What's especially nifty about Old Cannery's financing is that you can start the process online and know what you're approved for before you even get to the store. If you get approved online ahead of time, you'll also score a free pound of fudge!
