As one may imagine, any town dubbed "the Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World" is likely to maintain a small-town charm built upon a history built on agriculture. This stands true for the city of Sumner. Sumner's downtown boasts a plethora of spots prime for antique shopping excursions, fun retail spaces with personality and plenty of dining options in a walkable and friendly community. Having that small-town charm shouldn't be confused for being a sleepy community, however. Aside from plenty of shopping and dining options, Sumner hosts several community events including an art festival, wine walk and the Daffodil Parade.

Here are a few stops worth spelunking:

[Baby Boomers]
Sugar Babies is an amazing retail space geared toward the mamas and papas of little ones. Inside boasts a posh ambiance with chandeliers and nifty displays while prices remain reasonable. You can score just about everything you need for your mini, from rad threads and cutsie accessories to hot finds like strollers, bedding and décor and more. The staff is splendidly friendly, and with such an array of merchandise, it's a fun shopping trip in and of itself. 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 926 Main St., Sumner, 253.299.6221

[Thrift Seekers]
Treasure hunters looking for vintage finds for their homes must make a stop at AJ's Treasure Shack. Inside you'll find books, furniture, tableware and more, all neatly displayed. It offers a far superior thrift shop experience than digging through junk piles to seek your swag, like some big-name thrift shops can do, and it's friendlier on the wallet than antiquing. 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 1114 Main St., Sumner, 253.447.8732

[Gadgets and Gifts Galore]
Simple Tidings and Kitchen is one of those destinations that you mean to pop into for ONE item and end up walking out with an armload! This shop is filled to the brim with all of your kitchen gadget necessities as well as gift cards, kitschy trinkets and clever gift-giving items. Includes a selection of home décor and custom metal sign services. 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, 1115 Main St., Sumner, 253.863.7933

[Shabby Chic Chickas]
The name says it all at Persnickety's Awesomeness Emporium. It is indeed awesomeness. Antique and repurposed décor finds take up a vast majority of this space, complete with beautiful tables and shabby-chic styled desks.  You can also find upcycled, artsy pieces to accessorize your wall space and more. It's a combo of cleverness and whimsy. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, 1117 Main St., Sumner, 253.269.6838

[Pocket Park]
Heritage Park is a neat little patch of green on the corner of Main Street and Kincaid. There you'll find a gazebo, benches and several tables. Bring some chess pieces and play a game upon the tables adorned with checkers while sipping your cup of joe.
