Urban Spelunker: Tacoma Triangle District

Tacoma's walkable district

By Jackie Fender on October 10, 2013

Delicately nestled among Stadium District and Antique Row in Tacoma is the Triangle District. This district only spans a few blocks, beginning at Sixth and Tacoma Avenue and ending at Ninth and Broadway. And though small in size, it is teeming with Tacoma culture highlighting more public art per city block than most other districts. Several murals and statues, including our Goddess of Commerce, reside there. Aside from the abundance of creativity gracing this lovely walkable district, you'll encounter a ton of charming retail spaces, art galleries and fabulous culinary attractions. It's a cultural hub in the heart of downtown.

Here are just a few finds you can come across while adventuring through the Triangle District.

For those who get that creative itch but lack the inspiration, Uncorked Canvas is a prime destination. Each week, instructors walk groups of creative types step by step through featured pieces of art. Oh, and there's wine. This is a casual course for those who want to dabble with paints and wish to meet new people who admire the same pastimes, like painting and fermented, boozy grape juices. Book your own private party (ladies night out, birthday bash, team meeting) or attend one of the public courses as you please. Check the website at uncorkedcanvas.com. Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; class times vary. 711 Saint Helens Ave., Tacoma, 253.432.4052
