Making people look and feel beautiful is an important job. For many, it's not only a passion, but also can be a fulfilling and rewarding career.

Here in the South Sound, those who are interested in a career in the beauty industry are in luck. There's a local academy that makes these dreams come true as well as providing the tools and support students need to reach their goals.

The Salon Professional Academy in Tacoma is honored to serve beauty industry students as well as the local community. Innovation and creativity punctuate the programs offered at the institution, which is now celebrating its seventh year of operation.

Endorsed by Redken for excellence in education, the Salon Professional Academy not only teaches the artistry and technical skills of cosmetology and esthetics, but it also teaches business management and customer service skills that give students the confidence and edge to provide the most extraordinary customer experiences possible. The curriculum includes such things as customer relations, scheduling appointments, customer communications and business marketing; these key learning elements set this academy apart from others by giving students a complete look at the industry.

"We're really focused on technical skills as well as giving people the skills to be successful in the industry for a long time," said Salon Professional Academy President Karen Shea. "We recognize that the creative part is really important, but it's not all of it. The customer service and business skills are also really important, too."

In addition to the state-of-the art facilities and groundbreaking curriculum, the organization recognizes student accomplishments and encourages community engagement and involvement. Monthly celebrations bring students' successes to the fold as well as highlighting the latest and greatest industry advances and information. With a mission of giving back, the school encourages and implements important causes and fundraisers for the Tacoma and South Sound community. For example, a recent fundraising effort recognized local October breast cancer awareness.

"We are passionate about doing things for the local community, especially in the Tacoma area," Shea said.

Additionally, not only is the Salon Professional Academy dedicated to student progress, well-being and community efforts, but it is also devoted to guest services. The general public is warmly invited to come to the academy to receive terrific cosmetology and esthetics services. The services are super affordable, and there are gift certificates and special packages available for purchase. Patrons are an important part of the academy and are warmly welcomed to call for their appointment today. To learn more about the hours, appointment scheduling, and the pricing for the public, visit thesalon professionalacademytacoma.com or call the school at 253. 617.7007 or 253.617.7008.

For those interested in enrolling in the academy, check the academy's website for cosmetology classes starting in January. For those interested in esthetics, classes are limited to certain times of the year; currently there are classes available. There is also a part-time night class option available. Visit the website for class enrollment, tuition and scholarship information.
