"Would you like a hand-washing and lotion treatment?" the Mary Kay representative asked me.

Somewhat surprised as I stood in a sea of the fairer sex, I managed to say no.  Undeterred, the woman continued to ask me if I would like the treatment.

I gave in.

My hands underwent a softening treatment, a gentle scrubbing and rinsing in warm water, and a final bit of lotion treatment.

"There," she said, "I'll bet your hands feel pretty good."

They did.

"Now when you write about this event, you can say you experienced some of it," the woman added.

Welcome to the 5th Annual Pampering Our Military Spouses event. Held at St. Martin University's Marcus Pavilion, well over a thousand military spouses attended Sunday's event.

"My girlfriend dragged me out of the house to come here," Meghan Saum said as she received a hair trim.

"She doesn't think I get out of the house enough, but I think this is a great event and I am glad to be here."

Besides haircuts, make-up sessions, teeth whitening treatments, waxings and hand care, spouses could learn about home loans, educational opportunities, business strategies and home milk delivery.

"I had no idea I could have milk delivered to my home," Josephine Littlefield said as she came away from a table hosted by Smith Brothers Dairy.

"This has been a great day for me, and hearing the word ‘free' is always good."
