America's Credit Union has been selected by The Penny Hoarder as one of the nation's top six credit unions for military members of 2022.

With two-thirds of its military members living off-base, ACU offers them the best of both worlds; they can bank off base at ten local locations or on JBLM at the following locations.

  • America's Credit Union - North Fort Lewis Branch, 11574 A St.
  • America's Credit Union - North Main/Fort Lewis Branch, 2201 North 12th St.
  • America's Credit Union - North Madigan Branch, 9035 Jackson Ave.

While ACU offers options such as easy online and mobile banking, loans, branches on military bases and 24/7 stateside assistance, and robust business banking services, its award-winning status is based on great checking options.

ACU has five types of checking accounts:  Affinity Plus, Affinity Premier, Affinity Basic, Opportunity Checking, and Teen Checking.

Affinity Plus accounts earn an APY of 0.75% on balances up to $25,000; Affinity Premier accounts earn a lower APY on lower balance tiers, but has a 0.75% APY on balances from $25,000 to $34,999; and Affinity Basic accounts earn a 2.02% APY on balances up to $1,000 (a great rate for checking accounts that often carry low balances).

Beyond checking accounts, service remains a priority. "At our 13 locations, customers can walk in and speak to a representative," said Crysta Cover, a former ACU branch manager at JBLM who now works at the South Tacoma ACU.

"We have a rigorous training program, and from our Member Service Representatives to our branch managers the standard is to greet customers in the first second they enter a branch; it sets the stage so customers know they are in an environment of professionals who are there to help."

She added that ACU's strong connections to the base include working with the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), Suits for Soldiers, the Army Emergency Relief program, and Santa's Castle.

"We are deeply involved with service members and their families," explained Cover.

ACU was recently recognized by Celent, a global research and advisory firm focused on technology in financial institutions for superior digital lending strategy, by winning the 2022 Model Bank Award for Digital Lending.

"By listening to our 42,000 members, we found that we could do a better job of meeting their loan needs," reads a press release.

To join ACU, an individual can be a member of the armed forces, civilian personnel, or a relative of a service member who is eligible.

Civilians can also join, at no cost, by becoming a member of the Pacific Northwest Consumer Council an organization that is open to everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Pacific Northwest.

The bottom line is this - no other military credit union offers a better range of checking account options (personal and business) for its customers with more competitive rates than ACU.

"We work very hard to provide our customers with the very best in service, and we constantly work to improve," concluded Cover.
