Tis’ the season to find the perfect Christmas tree

Where to find a Christmas tree in the South Sound

By Claire Nunn on November 19, 2020

It's about that time to pile the kids in the car and head out in search of the perfect Christmas tree. And we're not talking about a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, we're talking a big ole' tree with lots of room for tinsel and ornaments. Here are the best places in the South Sound to hunt for a tree.

AD:80 educational certificates to choose from. Webinar here

Our first pick is Double 4 Tree Farm in Tacoma. This farm was established in 1981 as a family business on 22 acres and each year plants around 3,500 seedlings. For the 2020 season the farm has Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Nordmann Fir and Noble Fir trees. This year due to COVID-19 the farm will be operating a little differently with all pre-selected trees cut by their staff and then picked up at a scheduled time. Pre-selection is already in full swing and runs through Nov. 27. If you don't have a chance to pre-order a tree of your choice, they also have a supply of fresh cut trees available as well.

Double 4 Tree Farm, hours vary, open through Dec. 18, 4203 72nd St. E, Tacoma, 253.535.9267, http://double4treefarm.com/index.htm

If you're wanting to try your hand at cutting down your own tree, head to Hunter Family Farm near Yelm. You will have the option to cut down a Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Norway Spruce, Nordmann Fir and Noble Fir's. You can take a wagon ride, drive or walk onto the field to hunt for the perfect tree and saws and tree carts are available in their gift shop. If you're not wanting to cut your own tree, they also have fresh cut available trees in their barn as well. Due to COVID-19 some changes have been made on the farm. Masks will be required inside the building and where social distancing isn't an option. Saws are available and will be sanitized, but guests also have the option to bring their own.

Snowshoe Evergreen Christmas Tree Farm located in Puyallup is a family-owned and operated tree farm that has been providing Christmas trees to the community since 1982. Their farm has 55 acres of fresh Christmas trees in five different varieties Noble Fir, Fraser Fir, Grand Fir, Douglas Fir and Nordmann. Due to COVID-19 they will not be offering guests the opportunity to cut down trees themselves, however they have multiple options to ensure you can still get the perfect tree. One option is to visit their u-cut tree section of the farm, or they're even offering curbside pick-up this year and you can shop their trees from the comfort of your home. They're also offering hours specifically for seniors and members of the community at risk available 9 a.m.-10 a.m., Monday-Friday.

If you're wanting to visit a stand rather than make the drive out to a farm, then we would recommend Menefee's Christmas Trees. In business for the last 35 years this family-owned business operates two stands in Tacoma and one stand in Lakewood. Selling hand selected and picked trees they offer Noble Firs, Douglas Firs, Grand Firs and Nordman Firs. The lots will open on Nov. 27 this year, and all locations are working hard to ensure they follow COVID-19 protocols.
