Moving to a new area and meeting new friends can be a challenge for military spouses. The Lewis Community Spouses' Club (LCSC) is here to help you out. Their new year kicks off Sunday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sam Adam's Brewhouse at Eagle's Pride. This fun event will help you connect with local military spouses who know exactly what you are going through.

Jamie Lynn Blum found volunteering with the club so rewarding she signed up for another year as the LCSC President.

"LCSC's annual Super Sign-Up event is about connecting with local spouses and providing information about the club and our events. We will have local vendors related to our theme of the year, The Art of Wellness. Membership is open year-round; however, Super Sign-Up is the place to meet the board, learn about and sign up for sub clubs, and get in some small business shopping," Blum said.

LCSC has super active sub clubs which are a great way to meet new people who share your same interest. There is even a group who goes to lunch, trying out restaurants across the area. "The big events LCSC hosts are always fun but I love the personal nature of the sub clubs. It's fun to get together with people who have similar interests and explore those interests while getting to know new people. I'm looking forward to Wine Club this year because one of our spouses is a winemaker and she'll be teaching and sharing her love of wine with us. I also look forward to continuing great discussions in Book Club. I'm excited to see familiar faces but also meet new folks who are just joining in on the fun," said Angie Melnik, editor, LCSC Newsletter.

The Super Sign-Up Event will also have local vendors available for shopping and information on the area. It is not mandatory to volunteer with the club to join but there are volunteer positions available for the 2019-2020 year. Many members find the volunteer aspect to be a rewarding experience.

LCSC membership is $25 annually and can be purchased online or at the event. LCSC is a volunteer-run, nonprofit, all ranks, spouses' group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It is dedicated to giving back to soldiers and their families. Membership is open to all spouses of active-duty, Reserve, National Guard and retired personnel of the Armed Forces. The club is honored to extend membership to Gold Star spouses.

LCSC Super Sign-Up, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, Sam Adam's Brewhouse at Eagle's Pride, Exit 116 from I-5, Free, lewiscommunityspousesclub.org
