The universal dilemma within military communities is finding where to put all that gear. It's heavy, large and cumbersome, and figuring out the best way to organize and store it is a challenge. If you're working with a small closet, a garage wall, or a spare bedroom, here are some storage solutions for every space and wallet.

The ALGOT system, by IKEA

This modular system is very affordable, and its neutral finish is perfect for any space. You can customize a free-standing option with shelving, clothes rails or pull-out baskets as wide or narrow as you need. If you are able to mount uprights to the wall, take advantage of even more vertical space by mounting shelves as high as your ceiling allows, then design the space below with more shelving, clothes rails, shoe storage, and baskets. The ALGOT system is perfect for awkward spaces, angled ceilings, and making the most of nooks and crannies. You can even use their online planner to help create your perfect solution. Combinations start as low as $32.

Martha Stewart Living Closet System by the Home Depot

This closet system has an upgraded finish that can work in any space to create a custom look. Color finishes include Classic White, Rustic Grey and Espresso. Storage accessories are customizable and include adjustable shelving, drawers, clothes rails, shoe racks and corner options. It's easy to plan and install, as combinations can be purchased as starter kits, and then additional pieces can be added on. Starter system kits start at $82 with free delivery or in-store pick-up, and don't forget your military discount.

SafeRacksTM overhead garage shelving

A veteran-owned business with local installers, SafeRacksTM has solved the dilemma of cramped garage spaces. This shelving system is mounted to the ceiling on industrial strength powder-coated steel ceiling brackets, and drops down between 12"-48". This space is perfect for large totes and boxes, and the racks can also be equipped with hooks, allowing more hanging storage for bikes, garden tools, or sporting equipment.  A 4' by 8' rack can hold up to 600 pounds safely and securely. If you're uncertain about installing yourself, you can request to have them professionally installed for an additional charge. Racks start at $69.99 for a 4' by 4', up to $299 for two 4'x8' racks.

PAX Wardrobe system by IKEA

If you want the custom closet look without the lofty price tag, design your dream closet with PAX. With frames ranging in different width, depths and heights, and interior options including rods, drawers and laundry hampers, it's easy to cover every need and dream. PAX has upscale features and finishes perfectly suited for a beautiful bedroom, as well as more basic finishes and options to serve as shelving in the garage. Choose from open frames, frames with hinged doors and frame combinations with sliding doors for a clean and closed solution. PAX offers limitless possibilities and the online planner makes it easy to design any combination. A basic frame with shelving starts at $75.
