The USO - Operation That's My Dress is coming to Joint Base Lewis-McChord Saturday, Oct. 27, at the American Lake Conference Center. Girls ages 13-19 will be treated to a full princess experience with a fashion show, hair styling, makeup applications, jewelry and a choice of a beautiful Sherry Hill designer dress.

"USO Northwest is incredibly excited to be hosting Operation That's My Dress at JBLM this year," said Christine Vu, Camp Lewis Center Manager. "The program is an amazing collaboration between the USO and some of the most notable names in fashion, such as Sherri Hill, Paul Mitchell, Mary Kay, and many generous sponsors. Military teens face many unique challenges related to military life with frequent moves, deployments, and adapting to new homes and communities. This program is designed to give them an unforgettable experience."

According to former Navy Cmdr. Donald M. Leingang, Executive Director, USO Northwest, "Operation That's My Dress is an amazing USO event that started about five years ago when Sherri Hill, the designer known as the prom dress queen, donated $500,000 worth of dresses to the USO to give to daughters of military members. It was the USO that then decided that instead of just having the girls pick out a dress off rows of racks, they would turn the event into a full princess experience by adding hair styling, makeup applications and jewelry -- all free of charge to military daughters ages 13-19. To date, Hill, who has a family history of servicemembers, has donated $8 million worth of new dresses to this special program."

This event is a reminder that the USO features a variety of programs for families and children. "One of the unique aspects of USO Northwest is that we support and provide local outreach to every branch of the military," added Leingang. "USO remains steadfast to its mission of keeping America's military servicemembers connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to our nation -- and we are constantly reminded that our military families endure separation, and that our daughters are sacrificing, too, when Mom or Dad is deployed or away from the family. Operation That's My Dress is an opportunity for the USO and our community partners to roll out the red carpet and say ‘Thank You' to our daughters."

There are two session times and each will feature a performance by the USO Show Troupe, a fashion show with contestants from the Miss USA pageant who will model the gowns the teens will choose from.
