MWR's summer lineup of activities on JBLM

By Christina Butcher on June 28, 2018

The school semester is finally over, the sun is out in all its glory and neighborhood streets are teeming with kids at play. Ladies and gentlemen, summer is officially here. To celebrate the season, Joint Base Lewis-McChord's Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) has a cool lineup of summer events to keep you busy and living life to its fullest:

4K Stroller Derby Stroll (June 29)
For all you moms and dads out there who've been cooped up in the house for too long, this event is for you. The 4K Stroller Derby Stroll is a relaxed, family-friendly fun run. The event will take place at the flagpole on McChord Field Parade Field and is sure to help you build camaraderie with other stroller-wielding parents in the greater JBLM area.
3 p.m., Friday, June 29, McChord Field Parade Field, 100 Jackson Blvd., JBLM, free, register by calling 253.982.6707 or emailing marilyn.hall.1@us.af.mil

JBLM Freedom Run (July 21)
Support those who fought for our freedom by participating in the annual Freedom Run, which includes 10-mile, 5K and 1K race routes. Race participants will have the opportunity to write the names of those they're running in support of -- current and past servicemembers alike -- on a giant banner that will be displayed throughout the race. Runners who stick it out to the end will be met with a display of flags in honor of fallen servicemembers along the final stretch of the race route. For a bit of levity, participants are encouraged to arrive in festive, red, white and blue-themed attire.
7:00 a.m.-close, Saturday, July 21, MWR Fest Tent, 2271 Liggett Ave., JBLM, $10-35, facebook.com/jblmraces

JBLM Bodybuilding Championship (Aug. 11)

Male competitors are broken down into physique, classic physique, bodybuilding lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight divisions. Female competitors are welcome to compete in bikini, figure, women's physique and women's bodybuilding divisions. Competitors will be further divided into civilian and servicemember subcategories, all of whom will be competing for trophy prizes.
