The McChord Spouses' Club (MSC) mission is threefold: to provide charitable, social and educational activities; to extend welfare support for military members, their families and the community; and to provide opportunities for giving back to the military community and promote the abilities of its spouses. The MSC is open to spouses of all ranks.  Members are primarily Air Force spouses; however, the club welcomes spouses from other services.

"This year, the MSC focus is on promoting our very own McChord Thrift Shop, which is governed by the MSC," said Carolyn Fisher, general funds treasurer for the MSC. "The MSC is proud that the McChord Thrift Shop will be celebrating 60 years of service on McChord Field this coming June.  Through the help of donors, volunteers and the JBLM community, it is our goal to strengthen the thrift shop's impact in our McChord community.  The net profits from thrift shop (sales) are dispersed to the MSC for educational scholarship and welfare distribution.  The MSC strongly encourages our members to (patronize) the thrift store and volunteer regularly."

Club members work hard to raise money for their charitable endeavors.

"In the past five years, the MSC has awarded almost $150,000 in educational scholarships," Fisher said. "This year, the MSC has scholarship opportunities for Air Force child dependent high school Running Start students, Air Force child dependent college-bound high school seniors, and Air Force dependent spouses who plan to be enrolled in school during the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarship applications can be found on the McChord Spouses' Club website.  (The) scholarship (application) deadline (is) March 2, 2018.  The MSC Scholarship Awards will be presented at a dinner Saturday, April 28, 2018."

In addition to the scholarship fund, the club also provides financial support to the local community.

"In the past five years, the MSC has awarded over $107,000 in welfare support for military members, their families and the local community," Fisher said.

The MSC is not all work, though. Here are some fun upcoming MSC events:

March 22: Couples Game Night at 6 p.m. at the McChord Community Center, Building #3209. This is one of the club's most popular social events of the year.  The evening will include light snacks and a variety of host-led games and prizes.  Spouse deployed or out of town? Come anyway or bring a friend to be your "game-partner" for the evening.

April 19: Paint and Sip Night at 6 p.m. at the McChord Community Center, Building #3209. A skilled artist will guide you step-by-step through creating the featured painting. Start with a blank canvas (and a delightful beverage), and go home with your own personal creation. Registration is required.

May 24: Family Bingo Night at 6 p.m. at the McChord Community Center, Building #3209. This is the MSC's most popular social event of the year.  Dinner will be served, and prizes will be awarded to the winner of each game.  Fee to play for non-MSC members. Extra game cards will be available for purchase at the door.
