"JBLM in 10"

A YouTube video channel connecting military families to JBLM and all the region has to offer

By Marguerite Cleveland on October 12, 2017

"Welcome to ‘JBLM in 10,' The Ranger, NW Airlifter and JBLM Living newspapers' video channel connecting you to the greater JBLM area," says Christina Butcher, executive producer of video production and on-camera host, in the introduction to "JBLM in 10" videos. The videos can be found on the new YouTube channel "JBLM in 10" recently launched by Northwest Military, parenty company of the newspapers listed above.

"'JBLM in 10' allows us the opportunity to teach military who will PCS here soon and those already here, about the local community, on and off the base with all of the sights and sounds that video offers.  We are excited to do stories on the safest cities near JBLM, regional travel and how to circumvent traffic snarls," said Northwest Military's publisher, Ken Swarner.

According to Butcher, "'JBLM in 10' makes short, informational videos about life surrounding Joint Base Lewis-McChord for incoming servicemembers and their families to the area. We try to create videos that'll inform people's decisions on housing, schools, travel, entertainment and volunteer opportunities. We also work hard to provide servicemembers with an idea of military life at JBLM and related on and off-post life hacks. Ultimately, our goal is to enrich the lives of incoming and outgoing soldiers and their families here at JBLM.

The video production team has worked diligently over the past six months to develop the channel. Visits and interviews were conducted at local businesses. The team visited off-post neighborhoods and toured schools to help you find the best options for your families. Researching entertainment options such as local breweries, Oregon wineries and outdoor adventures produced videos that will help you make the most of your valuable free time. The channel also provides information about activities on JBLM such as the Lewis Community Spouses Club, which gives spouses an opportunity to socialize and volunteer.

The "JBLM in 10" YouTube channel's tagline is "everything you need to know about life at JBLM in 10 minutes or less." There are currently 30 videos posted.  Viewers can watch informative videos such as what is the spouse's club up to or find useful information about top schools or neighborhoods in the area. The videos are also placed in playlists, so as the channel grows you will easily be able to find the categories that interest you.  Categories include Oregon Wine Country, Recreation and Fitness, Local Arts and Entertainment, Military Life at JBLM, and Education at JBLM. Viewers can also subscribe to the channel and will receive an email when new videos are posted.
