The Odd Otter Brewing Company is voted Best Military Supporter in Tacoma. With three of the five initial owners having a military background it is no surprise they are so supportive of veteran and military organizations. From their early days when they launched a Kickstarter campaign, charity has been a critical component of their vision.

Odd Otter's most recent charitable endeavors for nonprofits supporting veterans were different events for three local charities. The Fisher House, which provides family home-style lodging for military families when they have a loved ones in the hospital. The Mission Continues pairs veterans with a nonprofit and they lead a "platoon" to carry out a "mission" for the charity. The Pointe du Hoc Foundation honors the 2d Ranger Battalion and provides charitable activities for Rangers and their families, World War II to the present.

According to co-owner, John Hotchkiss, "Our military and first responders serve and work in very unique settings.  Very few of us have to go do things that put our lives in danger as part of our job. Our military families also face unique challenges.  We are proud and honored to offer a military discount to all active-duty, veterans, First Responders, and to military spouses."  The brewing company offers happy hour pricing anytime they come in as the military/first responder discount.

Having an inclusive environment that was open and welcoming to all was important to the owners when they created their vision for the brewery.  "We especially wanted to have a place that was safe and especially our military, a place they can call home, said Hotchkiss." The brewery is in an historic building that was built in the 1880s. Its past includes a stint as a Soldiers and Sailors Club during World War I and as an African-American USO during WWII.

Odd Otter Brewing Company currently pours six beers and two ciders in its taproom.  Keeping with the otter theme the beers have fun names like Ottermelon, Notteronsense, and Odd Udder Milk Stout. The brewing company doesn't sell food but you are welcome to bring in food from outside vendors. Many local restaurants will deliver your meal straight to your table at Odd Otter.

The brewery schedules fun events during the week and patrons can enjoy Live Music Mondays, Karaoke Tuesday, Hump Day Trivia and Thirsty Thursday Karaoke.
