Heaven on Earth

Local spa offers healthy option

Beauty comes from within.

At Olympus Spa, a family-owned business dedicated by a husband to his wife as a gift of honoring women, the attitude is that an individual's true beauty can only be achieved when one feels healthy.

In other words, this spa pampers women's minds, bodies and spirits.

"We offer women a bit of Heaven on Earth," explained Myong Lee, who founded the Lakewood business in 1997.

"When I first came to this country, I noticed that many women appeared to live lives filled with stress, so I decided to help relieve this."

The spa has successfully merged Eastern medicinal and Western relaxation techniques to create a total health conscious experience.

"There are many recent medical studies which prove that stress can cause physical, emotional and behavioral disorders," commented Tai Lee, the president and son of the business' founder, "and they can affect one's health, vitality, peace of mind, and one's personal and professional relationships."

He continued to say that stress usually plays a role in conditions like insomnia, backaches or headaches, as well as contributing to more serious afflictions like high blood pressure and heart disease.

"There is a spiritual and mental aspect to what we do here," continued Lee.

"Women come here and relax; they focus on their spiritual selves, and in doing so they help themselves mentally and physically."

Olympus Spa features Earth energy rooms, an herbal dry sauna, a steam sauna, and different whirlpools.  Each of these facilities is designed to provide health benefits.

The spa furthers this sense of physical health environment by offering a reading room, a meditation room, a log room and a tea ceremony class for those customers who wish to experience inner tranquility.

Guests have an array of options to choose from to include skin and body care, massage and wrap, hands and feet care, and spa packages.

"One of our favorites is the Korean tradition of soaking in hot water for a while and then scrubbing, exfoliating, the skin," continued Lee.

"A woman's skin is left very smooth and soft."

A woman can expect an exfoliation to last about 40 minutes and a massage about 50 minutes.

Another treatment available is the infrared sauna experience.

The infrared light heats up the body from the inside which in turn enhances metabolic function, stimulates the production of collagen, and generally detoxifies and assists the body in recovery from pain and of injuries by dilating the blood vessels to increase circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body.

"We think this would be of interest to the women who serve or live at Joint Base Lewis-McChord," said Lee.

"With the hard work and stress that they may experience - both as soldiers and as wives and mothers - we can help relieve them of the stresses of life and training," explained Lee.

Located at 8615 South Tacoma Way in Lakewood, Olympus Spa is open six days a week.  Walk-ins are welcomed; reservations are suggested.  For more information, visit olympusspa.com or call 253.588.3355.
