Vacation Bible School in the South Sound

Churches open doors this summer

The last bell rings, and school is officially out for the summer. Many children in the South Sound area look forward to attending Vacation Bible School (VBS) at their local church. Children enjoy the fun activities, learning new songs, and meeting new friends in their local area. Churches enjoy providing fun and entertainment for children while centering their days around the Christian faith. VBS is open to children of many different ages, for those who attend church regularly, and even for those who don't. Check out this list of VBS options in your area:

Bethany Baptist Church. July 11-15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 4 years old to 6th grade. $20 per child or $50 max for family of three or more. This year, Bethany Baptist Church has a Cave Quest theme, which will offer a week full of fun events. 713 S. Hill Park Dr. in Puyallup, 253.848.3556.

Pilgrim Lutheran. July 11-14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 4 years old to 5th grade; 6th grade and up are welcome to register as a volunteer crew assistant. Free. Kids will participate in Bible learning experiences and activities in small groups called Cave Crews. 10510 136th St. E. in Puyallup, 253.848.3680.

Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church. June 27 to July 1 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ages kindergarten to 6th grade. Free, 50 cents per child per day, donation is gladly accepted. This will be an over-the-top underground adventure for children learning the foundation of God's love. 8401 112th Street East in Puyallup, 253.848.4357.

Destiny City Church Kids Camp. July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children entering kindergarten to 6th grade. $10 per child. Wonders of the Deep Kids Camp 2016 will accept applications until the camp is full. 3102 S. 23rd St. in Tacoma, 253.627.5503.

Harbor Covenant Church. Aug. 8-12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children entering kindergarten to 3rd grade will enjoy Bible quests, songs, fun games and snacks. Fourth and 5th grader's camp includes a day of service, two field trips, an outdoor water day, lessons and worship. $50 per child. 5601 Gustafson Dr. NW, Gig Harbor, 253.851.8450.

Emmanuel Bible Fellowship. July 11-15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Ages 4 years old to 6th grade. Free. Kids will learn at field-tested activity stations within small groups with their Cave Leader. Each hands-on station reinforces the daily Bible point. 2508 State Ave. NE in Olympia, 360.352.9044.

River Ridge Covenant Church. July 18-22 from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 4 years old to 5th grade. $30 per participant, by donation.  Kids will enjoy learning about what it means to follow Jesus and shine in his light. Class size is limited. 7945 Steilacoom Rd. SE in Lacey, 360.923.1569.

Grace Community Covenant Church. June 20-24 from 9 a.m. to noon. $15 per student or $30 per family. The Turn It Up VBS will have fun and hands-on activities for children. Closing lunch and concert celebration to be held June 24. 5501 Wiggins Rd. SE in Olympia, 360.491.8954.
