The rainy season will soon be upon us here in the Pacific Northwest, so now is a great time to look for indoor activities.

Youth bowling leagues begin September 19 at Sounders Lanes Family Fun Center - and get free bowling for your family, Saturday September 12 from 10 a.m. to noon, when you sign up.

Youth leagues consist of three-person teams that play three games for just $8 per player. For the smaller bowlers, bumper bowling is available during the same time. This is for children 7 and younger, and the cost is $3 a game per child with coaching provided.

There are also adult leagues to choose from Sunday, Monday, or Friday night mixed fours, or a Monday morning women's league. Leagues last from eight to 10 weeks.

If you're feeling hungry, the Strike Zone inside Sounders Lanes offers meals while you play. Choices include nachos, Philly cheesesteaks, salads and more. You can also bring your meals into the indoor playground area, a great place for the smaller kids to burn off some energy.  There is also an indoor lazer maze.

Sounders Lanes is in Bldg. 737, Jackson Blvd., McChord Field, 253.982.5954, jblmmwr.com/bowling_m.html

Bowl Arena Lanes on Lewis-Main also offers youth leagues.  Teams meet every Saturday at 9 a.m., and is located in Bldg. 2272, Liggett Ave., Lewis Main, 253.967.4661, jblmmwr.com/bowling_l.html

If you prefer to go off post, there are several options for bowling in the area.

Bowlero Lanes in Lakewood offers both youth and adult leagues.  Their online adult schedule is jam packed, with a league play every day of the week.  Youth leagues start Sept. 13 and feature three divisions including tiny tykes with bumpers, future all-stars (up to age 11), and major all-stars.

Bowlero Lanes is located at 3853 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, 253.589.9000, Bowlerolanes.net

The recently remodeled Aztec Lanes in Lacey offers many types of leagues for all ages and skill levels.  Adult leagues are Sunday through Friday with a youth league on Saturdays.  Aztec also offers open play, birthday party rental and Lightning bowl - a light show extravaganza playing music videos on request.

Aztec Lanes is at 2825 Martin Way E., Olympia, 360.357.8808, azteclanes.com
