"We want to help spouses get to know us, others in their neighborhood, and sign up for something they might like to do," said Kelli Weinerth, president of the Lewis Community Spouses' Club.
To those ends, the club is hosting their first Welcome Expo - putting military spouses face to face with services on and off the base, August 19 at the Clarkmoor Community Center (inside the old elementary school near the I Corps Flagpole) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will be your one-stop shop for finding a dentist, orthodontist, hairdresser, off-base athletic center, as much as learning more about Girl Scouts, Army Community Services, youth activities on base, Santa's Castle, the Red Cross and Tricare. Restaurants close to the base, and those that deliver base housing, will also attend, as will home-based businesses including Scentsy and Pampered Chef.
Spouses can also learn more about the spouses' club, such as the social and charitable activities they produce, including their October Amazing Race, Holiday Jubilee, Trivia Night and more. The spouses' club also meets monthly, the second Thursday for lunch - the next one is Sept. 10 at Clarkmoor to socialize, network and play Bunko.
"Our mission is to offer friendship, service and engagement," Weinerth explained.
The club supports charitable causes on and off the base as well, and they run a gift boutique on the base that reopens later this month.
Membership is $25 a year, and the Welcome Expo is the perfect time to meet members and get questions answered.
"We're thrilled to participate and support the Welcome Expo," said Denise Dhane of Dhane Orthodontic in DuPont. "I wish they had something like this when I was a young Army wife."
The Lewis Community Spouses' Club is open to all spouses regardless of the ranks their military partners hold.
"Our members range from spouses that just got married yesterday, to ones that have been in thirty years like me," Weinerth added. "By being that, we increase the legacy of what it means to be a military spouse."
