Express Employment Professionals of Pierce County (otherwise known as Express) is driven by a commitment to excellence based on its knowledge of the area's businesses and their career opportunities.

"We work with job-seekers to help them find the right job for their skills and experience," General Manager Monika Lewis explained in an email. "As one of the leading staffing agencies in North America, Express provides employment services and workforce solutions to employers throughout our community."

And Express has been doing just that for more than three decades.

Thirty-six years ago when the unemployment rate headed north to 10.8 percent, William Stoller, Robert Funk and James Gray faced an uncertain future after the dissolution of their employer, Acme Personnel.

They formed Express Employment Professionals with the goal "to help people find good jobs by helping clients to find good people," said Stoller, in a 2018 interview. "Our company's vision is to pair quality job-seekers with reputable companies. ... We know that families count on jobs to put food on the table, so we don't take our mission lightly."

Express provides a variety of jobs in multiple industries, including administration, accounting and finance, skilled trades, and commercial and light industry. These jobs range from full-time to part-time and temporary to permanent.

"In 2019 alone, Express Employment Professionals has worked with over 240 companies throughout Pierce County," said Lewis, "and whether you are new to the area or transitioning into the workforce, we are the place for jobs."

When it comes to working with transitioning service members, Express is eager to help.

"One of the best ways to pay tribute to their service is to help them find rewarding work in the communities," added Funk, also a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. "Bringing veterans into your workplace is a winning proposition for your company and communities. We witness that firsthand every day at Express."

Express has filled over 3,400 job openings this year in Pierce County.

"Our average number of people working every week for the year (through September) is 361," noted Lewis.

Much of this success is due to Express forming and maintaining good relations with local companies.

"Because of this, we have access to a variety of opportunities," continued Lewis. "By streamlining the search process, we prepare Express associates for the interview and their new jobs."

The service and support offered by Express are free to its applicants.

"Express not only listened to me about the type of work I was looking for ... but they matched my skill set to a position at a company that wasn't even on my radar, and I am very happy with my position," one applicant wrote.

Express will be at the Military Dream Big! Career and Education Fair Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
