For more than eight decades, the US Family Health Plan (USFHP) has been proud to serve active-duty family members, retirees and their dependents, and Reserve/Guard members on active-duty orders who are under the age of 65.

PacMed, a multi-specialty physician group and a not-for-profit organization, has administered US Family Health Plan for over 30 years. USFHP is a TRICARE Prime benefit.

As a Department of Defense sponsored health plan, USFHP is available through these non-profit health care providers in six designated service areas across the nation.

"USFHP provides TRICARE Prime benefits to our members. These are the same benefits they would receive at a Military Treatment Facility except that the services would be received through a civilian network of providers," explained Corey Hammond, Marketing Manager for PacMed.

"USFHP also offers our members a robust health and wellness discount program. They can receive discounts on complementary and alternative medicine such as chiropractic care, massage therapy, and acupuncture. There are also discounts available for gym memberships and home fitness equipment as well as discounts on eyeglasses and contact lenses."

Hammond also pointed out that while USFHP prides itself on providing quality health care, it also strives to demonstrate quality and operational effectiveness to a growing enrollee population as it continues as a respected health care partner in the Military Health System of the Department of Defense.

He went on to say that in 2013 the Defense Health Agency reduced TRICARE Prime service areas across the nation. The reduction affected retirees living in southwestern Washington and western Oregon. As a result, USFHP stepped in to provide a TRICARE Prime option to these families.

"We've recently expanded our coverage area from the Puget Sound area (Bellingham to Chehalis along the I-5 corridor) to now include northeastern Washington, northwestern Idaho and all of western Oregon," continued Hammond.

"We want to provide this unique TRICARE benefit to as many military beneficiaries as we can."

USFHP's commitment to excellent health care and continued growth provides service members with another option under TRICARE.

"We have been managing the care for military beneficiaries for over 40 years," concluded Hammond "and nine out of ten members give us the highest marks for satisfaction with the way we are managing their care."
