Free fitness classes and equipment offered at JBLM

Convenient gyms and centers serve all DoD card holders

It's not uncommon for military installations to include fitness centers. After all, strength and cardio conditioning are extremely important aspects of military training.

Here at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), service members and their families (ages 13 and older) have access to resources including everything from top-of-the-line fitness centers with rows of equipment to aquatics centers and aerobics and yoga classes. Overall, there are seven different facilities, with varying classes, equipment and fitness opportunities.

Jensen Family Health & Fitness Center

Located at 2022 Liggett Ave. on JBLM-Lewis Main, Jensen hosts more fitness classes than any other facility on base, including: MixxedFit, RIPPED, Connected Warrior Yoga, cardio circuit, yoga, indoor cycling, Zumba, step circuit and cardio kickboxing. Jensen Gym also offers cardio equipment, an indoor running/walking track and the Armed Forces Wellness Center.

McVeigh Sports & Fitness Center

Located at 2160 Liggett Ave. on JBLM-Lewis Main, McVeigh currently offers a Tai Chi class, as well as an abundance of cardio machines, Life Fitness and Body Master Circuits, Hammer Strength equipment and free weights. You can also find a functional fitness room, rock climbing room, three indoor racquetball courts, four outdoor tennis courts, and an outdoor basketball court. Tai Chi classes run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.

Soldiers Field House

Soldiers Field House is located at 3236 2nd Division Dr. and Handrich on JBLM-Lewis Main. This facility offers water aerobics, as well as youth and adult swim classes, and Spin Class. Visitors can also utilize different types of cardio equipment, free weights, Life Fitness and Hammer Strength machines, P90X DVDs, basketball courts, volleyball courts, two outdoor tennis courts and an artificial turf football/soccer field.

Sheridan Fitness Center

Located at 3759 Stryker Ave. on JBLM-Lewis Main, Sheridan Gym does not offer classes, but they do specialize in functional fitness by offering an Alpha Warrior Rig (a fitness apparatus including different obstacles, similar to American Ninja Warrior), tank sleds and other functional fitness equipment. You can also find cardio machines, free weights, Hammer Strength equipment and a stretching room.

Wilson Sports & Fitness Center

Wilson is located on JBLM-Lewis North, at the corner of D St. and 41st Division Dr., and offers indoor cycling, stick fighting, Mixxed Fit and Zumba. This gym also has cardio machines, Life Fitness and Nautilus circuits, Hammer Strength equipment, a functional fitness area, a spin bike room, free weights, basketball/volleyball courts and a racquetball court.

McChord Fitness Annex

The McChord Fitness Annex is located on McChord Field at 726 5th St. They have cardio equipment, Life Fitness Strength Circuit, TRX Suspension Training, an indoor running track, and classes that include Bootcamp, cardio kickboxing, yoga, Zumba, Core and More, Mixxed Fit, and RIPPED.

McChord Fitness Center

Located at 729 5th St., McChord Field -- adjacent to the McChord Fitness Annex -- the McChord Fitness Center has much to offer. Choose from different cardio machine options, a weight room, Hammer Strength machines, Life Fitness Signature Circuit, a stretching room, basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball courts, an outdoor skating rink for roller skating/blading, and an outdoor pool for recreational and fitness use during the summer months.

With so many exercise options available at JBLM, it's hard not to be inspired to get fit this year. Whether you prefer group exercise, CrossFit, or aquatics, there is something for everyone, and access to all fitness classes and centers offered at JBLM is free of charge.
