Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) has great fitness facilities available free of charge for service members and their families with locations spread out all over base. While this resource is invaluable to many, it's not easily accessible to everyone. Many families live off base, and the potential time it can take to get to a gym and then home again can be unreasonable. USAA has recognized the need for additional fitness resources and has partnered with Active&Fit Direct to provide lowered gym membership fees to USAA members.

As a USAA member, you have access to all kinds of Wellness Rewards and Discounts through the USAA MemberShop. You can browse everything available in their online shop, which will also direct you to the Active&Fit Direct website. The Active&Fit Direct program partners with over 9,000 fitness centers and YMCAs all over the country, including Gold Gyms, LA Fitness Centers, Curves, Anytime Fitness, Crunch Fitness and more. Unfortunately, the Pierce County YMCAs are not currently participating, but there is hope they will be in the near future.

To begin, plug in your zip code and instantly see what centers you have to choose from. You may be looking for a center with 24-hour access, or a center that provides child care, fitness classes or youth programs. Many centers offer a guest pass, where you can visit for one day to test out the equipment and tour the facility. The vast variety you have to choose from, and the ability to switch if you aren't happy with one, ensures you will find your perfect fit.

Once you've decided on a center, a $25 fee to enroll with Active&Fit Direct is required, as well as $25 for the current month and $25 for the next month. After the initial three-month commitment, then participation is month to month for $25 per month, which is a huge savings from regular membership fees. Many of the gyms in the area cost upwards of $100 per month. Once you are enrolled, you can print your fitness card and take it to any facility within the Active&Fit Direct network. The fitness center will verify your enrollment and have you sign their standard membership agreement, but you can still change your center anytime, or cancel your membership with Active&Fit Direct.

With so many locations available within the network surrounding JBLM, many service members and their families can access fitness facilities much easier than using those on base. There are also centers that provide child care, a resource none of the on-base facilities currently offer. If you are currently in the market for a new gym membership and are also a USAA member, then check out what fitness facilities are available to you for only $25 per month through Active&Fit Direct.
