"This is a great activity," commented Spc. Robert Ames as he watched his daughter.  "We've been to these events before, but this is by far the largest variety and activities."

In its tradition of support Joint Base Lewis-McChord personnel and their families, event producer Swarner Communications (Ranger/Northwest Airlifter newspapers) - along with event sponsor USAA and a battalion of local businesses - presented the annual "A Salute to Military Kids" Sunday at the Health Education Center on the Pierce College, Fort Steilacoom campus.

"It's great to be here to honor the children of military personnel," said Anthony Myers of Ted Brown Music. "This event recognizes these kids for their sacrifices."

Over a thousand children and their parents were treated royally.

"Welcome little princess," Daffodil Princess Rachel Price said to Sophia Knight when she walked in the door. "You are royalty today."

Everything from a Princess Center with dress up clothes, Disney Princesses and face painting to fairies events, a gym full of inflatable toys and games awaited the guests.

Parents participated in a raffle.

It's always a fun experience when you bring the business community out to support the kids," Ken Swarner, co-publisher of the Ranger/Northwest Airlifter, said. "It's all to honor military children for their sacrifices."
