The Martinsburg Institute has been offering distance learning services to those in the military and their families since 1980. In those days, classes were conducted out of buildings in New York. Presently, the Martinsburg Institute provides classes online for individuals all over the world.
Its goal is to offer distance learning for anyone, but it is geared most specifically toward those serving in the military.
By providing educational services directly online, students can study from anywhere and at any time. Services include simulation software, 24/7 instructional and student support, electronic manuals and an easy-to-use program learning guide.
Listed as a resource on the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) website, the Martinsburg Institute has also provided training for military personnel since 2004.
The institute currently offers degree programs in business administration, which consists of business communication, corporate leadership and team building, financial management and other business-related skills. It also offers a degree in integrated technologies, with emphases in digital technology integration, systems administration and systems design. Other certificated programs include medical administration, covering terminology and skills needed in most healthcare settings, and a degree in cultural studies, with an emphasis on Middle Eastern cultures geared for those deploying to Middle Eastern countries.
On top of scholarships offered through DANTES, the Martinsburg Institute also works in association with the Military Spouses Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) to provide scholarships, offering up to $4,000 in financial assistance specifically for the spouses of those in uniform.
Martinsburg Institute participates in the Severely Injured Service Members scholarship program, which is designed specifically to aide any Servicemember who has been severely wounded in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) or Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in obtaining further education and employment opportunities after active duty. This scholarship is also available to the spouse, children, or dependents of those Servicemembers.
