Who doesn't like a good massage? After a day dealing with cranky kids (or a cranky husband or boss) the chance to lie still for an hour and get those back muscles worked out can seem like heaven. But who has the time - or the money? These local options may be just the ticket for harried spouses or servicemembers needing some quality "me time."
For those on a tight schedule (and a tight budget) a good choice is Happy Chi Massage at 625 Black Lake Blvd. SW in the Capitol Mall (unit 317) in Olympia. The walk-in shop offers both chair and table massage options (starting at $12 for a 10-minute chair massage) along with foot reflexology and hot stone massage. Hours are Mondays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.happychimassage.com or call (360) 915-7449.
On Joint Base Lewis-McChord, massage therapy services are available at both the Wilson Gym and McChord Field Annex. Sarah Jenkins, Licensed Massage Practitioner, works out of Wilson Gym (while Jensen undergoes renovations) and offers a special introductory 1-hour massage for $50. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call (253) 224-1110. For a massage at McChord, call Badgerhawk's Bodyworks at (206) 396-1467.
For those who prefer a more regular regime of massage therapy, DuPont Chiropractic Center at 1100 Station Drive, suite 241 in DuPont (right off I-5 exit 119) offers a Massage on Demand program. Get one 1-hour massage a month for $39.95 a month (or two for $79.95 or four for $139.95). Your first 1-hour massage is just $19. Appointments are required, but hours are flexible. For more information or to make an appointment, call (253) 912-9653.
Hand and Stone, a national massage therapy chain, has shops in both Lacey (380 Galaxy Drive NE, near Wal-Mart) and Puyallup (10418 156th Street E.) An introductory 1-hour massage is offered for $38 (or $58 for an 80-minute session). Memberships are also available for $59.95 per month, which allows for one 1-hour massage (or facial) per month and 40-percent off of other services.
Appointments are suggested, but Hand and Stone does accept walk ins. Hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.handandstone.com. Call (360) 438-3735 to make an appointment at the Lacey store or (253) 770-4840 at the Puyallup store.
Massage Envy, another national massage chain, offers an introductory 1-hour massage for $39 for new clients. It, too, offers a membership program. With the military discount, Massage Envy's rate is $54 per month for one 1-hour massage. Regular price for a 1-hour massage is $78. Shops are located in Tacoma (4205 Steele Ste. 1101, (253) 471-2588); Puyallup (4423 S. Meridian Suite A721, (253) 841-0808); Olympia (2325 4th Ave. West, Suite 106, (360) 705-3689); and Gig Harbor (4641 Pt. Fosdick Dr. NW, Suite 300; (253) 853-4555). Hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit www.massageenvy.com.
While getting a massage may seem like a luxury, taking out some time for yourself can help relax and rejuvenate you - and get you ready to face the kids (boss and/or husband) once again.
