Soldiers and Family Members from the 6th MP Group (CID) and 42nd MP Bde., Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wa., gathered at the Suncadia Lodge in Cle Elum, Wa., to participate in a three day Strong Bond's Marriage Retreat.

The Army Strong Bonds Program, a unit chaplain-led program, was implemented by the Army Chaplain Corps to build individual and relationship resiliency in order to increase Soldier and Family readiness through the development of individual skills and relationship training.

From Mar 3-5, Soldiers and their spouses, participated in workshops designed to deal with military lifestyle stressors that impact relationships, communication training and conflict management.

A relationship workshop, conducted by Chap. David L. Shoffner, I Corps, JBLM, Wa, utilized videos produced by Mark Gungor, author of the book "Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage." The book assists couples in dealing with relationship issues in a fun, non-threatening manner.

"The lessons with Chap. Shoffner were light-hearted and fun," Maj. John Bass, HHD, 6th MP Group (CID) said. "My wife and I were thankful for the opportunity."

Meals, lodging and free childcare, were provided, allowing Soldiers and their Families to spend time with one another while providing an opportunity to learn positive communication skills and strengthen relationships.
