It may have been a wet, pre-Halloween weekend, but more than 150 Washington National Guard Youth had the opportunity to enjoy a safe, dry, fun-filled Trick or Treating Event, October 27 at Camp Murray. 

 The Trunk or Treat featured volunteers decorating their car trunks outside in the parking lot to distribute candy, while inside the gym, different game stations were featured.

"Last year, my wife got involved while I was deployed and she wanted to get involved with Trunk or Treat again this year," Washington National Guard Specialist Sonny Gunderson said. "I think it's a good thing for all the children and a great thing for little kids to come and do while being smart weather wise."  

Inside the gym, there were more than 10 different game stations that had the youth trying their hand at personal fitness (sit-ups, push-ups, etc.) and other craft related games.

Along with his wife, Gunderson also brought along his son, daughter and three of his nieces and nephews.

 "It's fun, and they have lots of games," said Sarah, one of Gunderson's nieces.  When asked what her favorite game was she simply replied, "Everything!"

This wasn't the first year of Trunk or Treat, however this was the first year that the event was held simultaneously in Vancouver and in Marysville.

"It's important to provide a location where parents can know that their children are safe," said Washington Air & Army National Guard Youth (WANGY) Program Coordinator Robbin Seeberger.  "Trunk or Treat is also a great environment for military youth to meet new friends and get into the Halloween spirit, Guard-style."
