The McChord Field Officer's Spouses' Club will host its annual charity scholarship auction at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the McChord Clubs and Community Center.

The OSC awards scholarships as part of its welfare program every year to graduating high school students who are dependents of both military and/or civilians at McChord Field and dependent spouses of both military members and/or civilians at McChord Field.

The scholarship funds come from a variety of sources, including fundraising efforts by club members, proceeds from the base thrift store and the auction.

Last year, the McChord OSC awarded a total of $25,000 though 14 scholarships, said Jenn Schnoebelen, OSC scholarship auction chair.

This year's auction will feature a variety of items to bid on, ranging from hot air balloon rides and hotel stays to golf packages and other local getaways.

"A lot of local companies are really excited about donating to the auction and showing their support for the military and our scholarship program," said Schnoebelen, who PSCed to McChord in July with her husband, an officer in the 4th Airlift Squadron.

In addition to the auction, the OSC will host two other events throughout the evening, a Dessert Dash and Wine Roulette.

As part of the Dessert Dash, tables bid against each other on various dessert items, and if there is a tie participants rush to the dessert table to claim their prize.

In Wine Roulette, for $10 people can choose a bottle of a red or white wine, and also have an opportunity to win various prizes that have been placed in many of the bags.

The program was established to aid the continued education of students who have demonstrated the highest personal and intellectual qualities through their superior academic performance. The OSC encourages applicants who have also participated in and have led extracurricular and community activities, volunteered, trained and/or held outside of school employment to apply for the scholarships.
