"EOD is a small community, so we are a family," said Paula Daniels, whose husband, 1st Sgt. Jeremy Daniels of the 710th EOD Company at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, has deployed eight times over the course of his 13-year career. "We need to take care of each other."

Her way of giving back came in the form of a cookbook, first published last year, which was a collection of 550 recipes from EOD family members, friends or supporters. The easel-style cookbook, entitled ‘Initial Success or Total Failure, in the Kitchen', had an initial print run of 600 and, so far, most of them have been snapped up. The remaining stock is on sale now through Dec. 15 for just $12.50 a piece, a savings of almost 50 percent.

All of the proceeds, aside from the printing costs, are going directly to the EOD Memorial Foundation Scholarship Fund, which has been actively helping EOD dependents pursue higher education and gave away 42 scholarships in 2011. Applicants must be the child, stepchild, spouse, grandchild or other recognized dependent of a Naval School Explosive Ordinance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) graduate. NAVSCOLEOD graduates themselves are not eligible and neither are Active Duty personnel. Applications for 2012 are being accepted starting on Jan. 1 through March 15. For more information, visit www.eodmemorial.org/scholarship.html.

Cookbooks can be delivered within the JBLM area or shipped anywhere in the country if necessary. Books will be shipped by Priority Mail and cost an additional $10.95 for up to four cookbooks in a box.

Payment can be by check, money order or PayPal. To order the EOD Cookbook, send an email to eodcookbook@yahoo.com.
