To kick off their recent move to Lewis North of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, 308th Brigade Support Battalion welcomed Soldiers and their Families to come attend an open house in costume Oct. 27.

The idea for the event, said Lt. Col. Gary Spearow, commander, 308th BSB, started at a (family readiness group) steering meeting. "We wanted to do it after we settled so we could welcome the Families to (Lewis) North Fort," Spearow said.

To kick off the event, Spearow welcomed and briefed the Families about 308th's mission, upcoming events, the FRG, family life counseling and the 17th Fires Brigade's new dining facility.

"Not only did we want them to see where their loved one works, we also wanted them to know where they could get information and resources when they need it," Spearow said.

Keeping in the spirit of Halloween, the Families were then escorted to festively decorated company areas for trick-or-treating, games, food and a surprise dance performance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" by a group of BSB Soldiers.

"It was good to have the Families see where we were and what we do on a daily basis," said Lt. Luis Saavedra, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 308th BSB. "My kid liked the music, candy and being able to crawl around on big military vehicles."

With the understanding that moving impacts both Soldiers and Families, Soldiers from 308th BSB said they made the most of their relocation from Lewis Main and used it as an opportunity for everyone to come together in fun to create a new and optimistic footprint on Lewis North.

"The event was pretty good; it's the first event like it that I've been to in my military career," said Spc. Peter Camacho, training NCO of B Company, 308th BSB. "It was very Family oriented. they got to see the new area of operation and my son had fun too."
