There's an exciting and fun opportunity this summer for local area Cub Scouts.

The Puget Sound District, Pacific Harbors Council, Boy Scouts of America, in conjunction with the Glacier View District Scouts, is sponsoring a day camp for Cub Scouts for two weeks this summer at Camp Curran located in the Puyallup/Spanaway area. Archery, supervised BB gun firing practice, craft stations, a rock climbing wall, water bottle rocket creations, knife skills and carving are just some of the many featured activities that will be offered.

The camps will take place July 22 to 25 and again from July 30 to Aug. 2. Camp is open to boys entering the first, second, third and fourth grades in the fall of 2013. Boys who are not Cub Scouts or not assigned to a Cub Scout pack are also eligible to register; however, they will be required to register as a Cub Scout as well.

Camp cost is $65 if the camper is registered by April 30; cost is $85 after April 30. Registration the week of camp is $100.

Due to the popularity of the camps and the number of spaces available, it is highly recommended to register early. There is space in the camp for approximately 100 Scouts per week.

Early registration also brings the chance to win some great prizes: Those who register on or before April 30 will receive a free camp T-shirt and will be entered in a drawing to win a Cub Scout camping chair or a tent.

The Boy Scouts of America is an organization that has been providing programs for young people for more than a century. Programs are geared toward building character, training in the responsibilities of being a good and productive citizen, celebrating physical fitness and other value-added skill sets.

The Glacier View District is located in Pierce County. The Scouting units in this district include Franklin Pierce, Clover Park, Steilacoom, JBLM, Bethel, Eatonville School Districts, Lakewood and Graham LDS Stakes. The district is part of the Pacific Harbors Council, which serves the Puget Sound Region. The Glacier View District has hundreds of Scouts in its program and has been a community mainstay on and off base for years.  The program always welcomes participants and volunteers and is happy to provide information and resources to get young Scouts started on a rich and rewarding experience.
