Swimming fun and learning doesn't have to stop because of the weather.  The South Sound offers terrific indoor pools and swimming opportunities for the entire family. Whether someone needs to brush up on their swim strokes, learn how to swim all together, or just splash and play, local area programs have something for everyone.

Here is a list of pools and swimming program offerings. Websites and phone numbers are noted for your convenience to learn even more.  Additionally, please take care to note each pools safety requirements on their respective websites.

The Fife Swim Center , Fife

This beautiful facility has a main pool, two foot deep wading pool, and a hot tub chlorinated by salt water (which is a less harsh chemical preparation and creates more buoyancy for swimmers). The pool has a swim school, offers group and private swim lessons for youth and adults, lap swims, and open swims for family fun.  The pool is available Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Drop in rates, punch pass, and season passes are available. The Curtis Aquatic Center, University Place

Located in the heart of University Place's Curtis High School campus, this new and innovative facility offers swimming lessons, lap swims, public swims, water aerobics, swim teams and water polo teams for youth. Lap swims, adult water aerobics, and public swims are held in the evenings Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Swimming lessons are offered Tuesday evenings (private lessons are also available). Metro Parks Tacoma offers two great indoor pools (the Eastside Pool and the Norpoint Pool).  These terrific facilities offer swim lessons, adult programs, lap swims, open swims, water exercise, and lifeguard training. Additionally, Metro Parks Tacoma has swimming lessons available at two local high school pools weekday evenings, Woodrow Wilson High School and Mt. Tahoma High School. With the price of membership, the YMCA offers swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, including those with special needs. Each facility has their own spacious swim area to serve members. There are family swims and competitive swim teams available as well.
