It's cold, dark and wet ... it's winter in the Pacific Northwest, and you're bored. Luckily, in this area, there are plenty of opportunities for warm, dry, adventurous activities under a roof.

For starters, the truly brave can escape the elements inside iFlySeattle, an indoor wind tunnel in Tukwila, and learn to skydive. With only seven locations worldwide, iFlySeattle is a premiere destination for adrenaline junkies and thrill seekers.

The skydiving simulator allows clients to develop their skills quickly with hands-on instruction. Despite how it sounds, iFlySeattle promises safety first. Children as young as 3 can fly, and all children younger than 18 need a parent's consent. Flight packages vary, but all include a training session, use of all flight gear, time in the tunnel and a flight certificate.

iFlySeattle, located at 349 Tukwila Parkway, is open Monday to Friday, 11 a.m.  to 11 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information and pricing, call (206) 244-4359. To book a flight, visit https://secure.iFLYseattle.com/.

Family members of all ages can also hone their skills for outdoor activities like snowboarding and skiing indoors at Bellevue's Mini Mountain. Indoor lessons are scheduled for 20-minute segments, one student at a time, and all equipment is provided. Lessons start at $45 for one session and go up to $575 for 30 lessons.

Mini Mountain also recently opened a batting cage (available for $10 per 20 minutes) with variable speeds for both baseball and slow pitch softball - just in case you've got extra time. Mini Mountain, located at 1900 132nd Ave. NE, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. For more information or to schedule lessons, call (425) 746-7547 or email info@minimountain.com.

For those who can't commit to an entire season of sport, MetroParks Tacoma offers adult drop-in basketball and volleyball. Basketball is held Tuesdays (through March 27) from 6 to 9 p.m. at Gray Middle School, 6229 S. Tyler St. Games are full court and start once there are two teams of five players present. Cost is $3 for the night.

Volleyball is held Wednesdays (through May 25) from 6 to 9 p.m. at Giaudrone Middle School, South 49th St. and Alaska St. Cost is $3 for the night.

Note that school activities take precedence; call (253) 305-1015 to verify the schedule.

To challenge yourself with a more uncommon sport, MetroParks Tacoma also hosts an indoor ultimate Frisbee league, which started Jan. 11 and runs through early March. The league, which is held in conjunction with Disc Northwest, will follow the USA Ultimate 11th Edition Rules with modifications for indoor play. Games are held Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. at Truman Middle School, 5801 North 35th St.

Players can sign up individually or as a team, and everyone, from beginner to advanced, is welcome. The cost is $25 per person for the nine-week session. Register online at www.discnw.org/ale/register.html?clubEventId=560.
