About 35 years ago, the first paintball gun was designed and patented to mark trees and cattle for forestry and farming industries.

About 6 years later, similar guns were used to play an outdoor game dubbed paintball.

The object of the game is to reach the opponents flag station, grab their flag, and get back to your team station without being hit. If you get hit, then you are out. If you get hit while carrying the flag, you must drop it, and leave it at that spot.

Also the players must have the appropriate gear which can be rented or purchased at various paintball outlets. Equipment includes safety goggles, a face mask, a helmet, proper clothing, and paintballs.
