Boredom and Lacey, Wash., should never be said in the same sentence. For a town with a modest population of about 39,000, there are a plethora of things to do.
To start with, consider the outdoor fun you can create at one of the 19 city parks. Lacey also boasts three golf courses, miles of paved walking and biking trails, and several indoor pools. Four boat launch areas provide easy access to aquatic fun.
Tolmie State Park is a 105-acre treasure on Lacey’s northern border on the Puget Sound. Divers can explore three sunken barges that have been submerged since the 1970’s. The site is suggested as a safe dive for beginners.
Lacey takes the fun indoors as well. Shipwreck Beads offers creative visitors the largest collection of beads in the world. For those feeling lucky, Hawks Prairie Casino offers card games, slots, tournaments, and great food.
Lacey is preparing to become one of Washington’s premier retail locations. The anchor store for Lacey Gateway Town Center is Cabela’s World’s Foremost Outfitter. Cabela’s is an outdoorsman’s paradise. It also has a restaurant upstairs and a unique shooting simulator.
Lacey also caters to the history enthusiast. The Lacey Museum tells history beginning with the pioneer settlers who crossed overland on the Oregon Trail. Saint Martin’s University was founded in 1895 by monks of the Roman Catholic Order of Saint Benedict. The campus grounds are connected to the Abbey by beautiful walking trails.
Seasonal fun is at its best at the Lacey Community Market. The market is located in Huntamer Park. It is open July through September from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month. Visitors enjoy fresh produce, antiques, artisans, local cuisine, and live entertainment.
Autumn holds promise for good times in Lacey as well. The town celebrates the end of summer on Sept. 19 with the Lacey Rod Custom and Specialty Car Show. Oct. 10 is Children’s Day at Huntamer Park. Music, magic shows, crafts, and games delight the young at heart. In November, the Lacey Holiday Bazaar is a highly anticipated event.
The year culminates with a spectacular holiday season in Lacey. From the Lighting of the Holiday Tree to the Jubilee concert, there is something for everyone this time of year.
It doesn¹t matter if you live here, are vacationing in the beautiful Northwest, or simply passing through, there is too much to do in Lacey to ever say, “I’m bored.”
