The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is dedicated to finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma while at the same time improving the quality of life of patients and their families.

The LLS, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which was founded in 1949, is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting blood cancer.

"LLS is the leading source of free, highly specialized blood cancer information, education, and support for those patients, survivors, families and healthcare professionals," wrote Aja Estrada, director of marketing and public relations, in an email.

"We are relentless in our support of patients, working to ensure that they have access to treatments and service providers they need to live longer and healthier lives."

The LLS Washington and Alaska Chapter is located at 5601 Sixth Ave. S. in Seattle.

The society has contributed to nearly every step of progress in blood cancer treatment over the past several decades and remains committed to attacking blood cancer from every angle.

"LLS is where it is today because it has groomed a remarkable generation of scientists and physician scientists who have led the extraordinary advances in treatment of hematologic malignancies," Dr. Gary Gilliland, president of the Fred Hutchinson Comprehensive Center, wrote in a recent press release.

Since its inception, the LLS has invested more than $1.2 billion in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today's most innovative approaches to defeating blood cancer. Despite the work and funds expended, a cure for this type of cancer remains elusive.

"Despite much progress, there is still work to be done, and we will keep fighting to create a world without blood cancer," continued Estrada.

This is where contributors to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) can join the fight against blood cancer. The CFC donation number to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is 13-5644916.

"The power of the human spirit is relentless and indomitable -- as is LLS in the pursuit to beat cancer. If you or someone you love has been affected by blood cancer, please reach out to find out how we can support you, and how you can join the fight," concluded Estrada.
