For the past 71 years, Bremerton has been the place to be to celebrate those who have served in our Armed Forces. So much so, that it is the longest running Armed Forces Day parade in the nation. This year's celebration will kick off at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19. The city of Bremerton comes together faithfully every year to pay respects to those who have served and those who are currently serving. This annual patriotic parade is expected to draw in 25,000-30,000 people from all over Washington State. In the past, people have traveled as far as Oregon and Spokane to be a part of this beloved event.

The parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m. in downtown Bremerton and will feature all branches of the military, police, firefighters, various youth organizations, dignitaries, commercial businesses, and car clubs showcasing their classic vehicles. Spectators will not want to miss the high school marching bands as they play their tunes through the parade routes. This event will also feature Puget Sound Energy's Heroes' Barbecue. All active-duty, Reserve, retired, and veteran service personnel are able to enjoy a free hot dog, chips and soda during the barbecue.

This annual event began as a way to celebrate and recognize those who were drafted into service long ago and those who volunteered to serve their country. In both cases, it is important to remember that there are a number of people in this country who selflessly serve our great nation all while asking for nothing in return. Coming out and being a part of this long standing tradition will not only show your support, but it will ensure that the tradition is kept going for years to come.
