When wondering where to go for that mid-day meal, check in with "The Lunch Bunch," one of Lewis Community Spouses' Club's subclubs. This fun group of military spouses meets once a month to enjoy lunch at local area restaurants. "Every month we have a volunteer hostess. She picks the new location for lunch. We try to go to new places rather than repeat. It gives us a chance to try and learn new things while expanding our tastes," said Caryn Anderson, Lunch Bunch coordinator. Here are three selections from the group.

Safura's Mediterranean Cuisine
"I chose Safura's for Lunch Bunch because it has both amazing food and wonderful memories for my family.  It's one of those "mom and pop places" that my husband and I ate at weekly when we lived here earlier in his career.  To see it there 14 years later with little change in the menu and pricing is comforting.  I tell all my friends about it," said Sarah Mitchell, Lunch Bunch hostess.

Safura's Mediterranean Cuisine, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday-Friday; 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday; closed Sunday, 4160 6th Ave. SE #103, Lacey, 360.438.7898

The Spar
Anderson said, "I chose The Spar in Oldtown Tacoma for Lunch Bunch because of its delicious food, reasonable prices, gorgeous view, charming atmosphere, delightful staff and fascinating history. Additionally, The Spar constantly offers a wide variety of live music and entertainment - so there is always a reason to go. It's easy to understand why The Spar is considered a favorite among locals and why it has become our top choice to take family and friends to when they visit."

The Spar, 11 a.m. to midnight, Sunday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 2121 N. 30th St., Tacoma, 253.627.8215, the-spar.com

Fish Tale Brew Pub
"I picked Fish Tale Brewery for Lunch Bunch because it's one of those hidden gems the locals know about but others do not and it would be a crime to keep it a secret. The food is locally sourced; from the veggies to the clams they get right off the local pier to the hops for the microbrews. The eclectic menu includes an amazing Cubano and the best shrimp and grits dish this side of New Orleans, as well as a very yummy hummus platter. All the dishes are made from whole foods, no processed stuff and they have vegetarian and gluten-free items. The beer and ales also add a lot to your dining experience as well. The decor is pretty interesting, too. Someday I hope to earn a mug space amongst the locals on the wall of fame," said MeLissa Thresher, Lunch Bunch hostess.

Fish Tale Brew Pub, hours vary, 515 Jefferson St. SE, Olympia, 360.943.3650

Pacific Northwest Cuisine is fresh and focuses on local sourcing as much as possible. Since moving here I can't remember the last time I ate at a chain restaurant. Even quick meals here are from small local businesses. Step outside your comfort zone and try something unfamiliar.
