MWR has a fun-filled calendar for 2017

Every year, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Family & Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) plans weekly fun-filled, family-friendly events for our military families and community. This year is no exception. The MWR has planned events for families, single soldiers, adults, and children of all ages. If you're looking for something to do, chances are the MWR will have something for you to check out.

April 15

Armed Forces Kids Run, 9 a.m., ages 5-16 free. Registration is now open for the Armed Forces Kids Run. Event registration will begin at 8 a.m. Event takes place at Cowan Stadium at JBLM Main.

April 16

Easter Brunch at The Club, adults, $28.95; ages 4-12, $14.95; ages 3 and younger, free. Club members save $2. Come on in to The Club at McChord Field for your Easter feast. With seatings at three different times, guests will enjoy an omelet station, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, as well as French toast, Roast Baron of Beef, glazed ham, vegetables, shrimp and salmon. Easter Dash, special-needs children begin at noon, ages 4-7; 2 p.m., ages 8-12; 3 p.m., free. Be sure to bring your own basket and hop on down to the annual Easter Dash. Easter goodies for everyone sponsored by Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers at JBLM. Event takes place at Cowan Stadium at JBLM Main. For more information, please call 253.967.5636.

May 5

Mother/Son Dance, 6-9 p.m., $20 per couple, $8 each additional son. Come on down to the McChord Club to enjoy a nice evening at the Mother/Son dance. Cinco de Mayo Rundown, various times. Take your pick of Cinco de Mayo festivities to attend. The Warrior Zone, McChord Pub, and Sam Adams are all hosting Cinco de Mayo events. Enjoy salsa and bachata with a DJ at the Warrior Zone, including dance lessons. Guests to the Warrior Zone should be ages 18 and older. McChord Pub will have fabulous food and drink specials as well as entertainment from 4-10 p.m. Sam Adams will have margarita specials as well as chips and salsa from 4-10 p.m.

May 13

Down and Dirty Mud Run, 8 a.m., ages 7 and older, $20-$40; children younger than 15 must run with an adult. Register to participate in the 2017 5K Mud Run and get down and dirty. May 20

Armed Forces Day, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gather at Memorial Stadium for the annual Armed Forces Day celebration. The celebration will feature Civil War reenactments, Army vs. Navy rugby game, bounce houses, historical and static displays featuring an Apache, petting zoo, and lots of fair food including funnel cakes. Vendors will be on site with beautiful arts and crafts. Event takes place at Memorial Stadium at JBLM. For more information, visit jblmmwr.com/armedforcesday.

June 16

Father/Daughter Dance, 6-9 p.m., $20 per couple, $8 per additional daughter. Young ladies will love being able to bring their Dad to the Father/Daughter Dance. June 24

Warrior Zone Country Night, 7 p.m., no cover charge. Pull out your best blue jeans and dust off those boots for a country themed evening at the Warrior Zone. Try your luck at riding a mechanical bull, dance a two-step with some lessons, sing your heart out with karaoke, and a DJ spinning music throughout the night. There will be drink specials, a country-style feast, and even a roping contest. There will also be great giveaways. Guests to the country night should be 18 years of age or older. The Warrior Zone is located on D Street, Tacoma.

June 25 - Aug. 19

Triple Threat Triathlon Series 2017, various times and locations, $160 individual, $73 ppr three-person team, $110 ppr two-person team. If you sign up for the Triple Threat Triathlon Series, you sign up for all three races. The first race is the Black Hills Triathlon that takes place June 25. The next is the Lakewood SummerFEST Triathlon that takes place July 8 and the last race, JBLM Pacific Pathways Spring Triathlon, takes place Aug. 19. July 3 and 4

Freedom Fest, noon-7 p.m., July 3; 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., July 4. Freedom Fest will be celebrated over a two-day period this year. July 3 is reserved for DoD cardholders only while July 4 will be open to both DoD cardholders and the general public. Celebrate our nation's day of freedom with fair food, local vendors, entertainment by talented local bands, and of course, fireworks. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 10:15 p.m. For more information, please visit jblmmwr.com/freedomfest.

July 15

Lieutenant Dan Band, 3 p.m., free. Event to take place at Memorial Stadium and is sponsored by the USO. Additional details will be released at a later date. Please check the events calendar at jblmmwr.com.

AUG. 12

Commanders Cup Paintball Tournament, 9 a.m., $75 per team, open to active-duty servicemembers only. If you love paintballing, this is the event for you. Get a team together and join the tournament. There will be a representative meeting held Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. The team's fees shall be paid at that time. For more information, please call the Intramural Sports Office at 253.967.4768. The event will be held at the Paintball Field at JBLM North.
