Downtown Olympia is a special place. A haven for everyone, it screams of diversity and has established itself as a hub of the vibrant, eclectic and unique. Three Magnets Brewing Company on Franklin Street has also ingrained itself in this sense - rooting itself as a hub within a hub, of sorts.

Established in 2014, 3Mag is the product of a family-oriented, community-focused philosophy that combines the thrill of a good time with bringing people together. "We wanted to bring that family friendly pub feeling to Olympia," said 3Mag co-owner Nathan Reilly. "We want to be a place where people feel comfortable holding a baby in one hand, and a pint of beer in the other."

So far, that ideology seems to be working. 3Mag's brewery is nestled among some of downtown's dining gems. Darby's Cafe, the beloved greasy spoon eatery open until 2:30 p.m., offers a plethora of scratch-made breakfast, brunch and lunch items, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. On the Three Magnets side of the operation, 3Mag Sammich's menu satisfies sandwich and salad cravings with food-truck-inspired grub for less than $10 until 3:45 p.m. Starting at 4 p.m., the Pubhouse menu goes live, serving up traditional pub fare with a mostly scratch-made menu created by Chef Kyle Wnuk until 9 p.m. The crossover between the businesses allows patrons to order beer from both Darby's and 3Mag, enabling diners to round out their meals with one of their signature brews.

Although 3Mag has some forerunning brews, they invite their customers to switch things up a bit during visits. "We do have some flagships that we come back to from time to time, but we don't have any beers that are always on tap," Reilly stated. "Instead, we offer the ‘what's new?' approach to our customers. We'd love it if every time somebody came in, they had something new to try from us."

This fresh philosophy allows 3Mag to cater to the differentiating tastes of its clients, while continuously creating new products that innovate within the fast-evolving field. "Our best-selling beer by far is our Little Juice IPA - Smoothie Edition. Behind that would definitely be anything that's an IPA," Reilly enthused. "We're proud of the IPAs that we make!"

Also offered is 3Mag's Country Series, which consists of bottled barrel-aged and/or rustic/wild ales, comprising the flavor profile of their Helsing Junction Farmhouse Ale series. For non-beer drinkers, 3Mag carries refreshing bevs from Olympia's Whitewood Cider, a house red and white wine, and a small house cocktail list. They have also collaborated with Olympia Coffee Roasting Company, creating nearly four coffee beers for those with adventurous palates.

There's no shortage of bars and pubs in downtown Olympia, but if you're looking for a fantastic, family-friendly gathering spot with great food and even better brews, stop by Three Magnets Brewing Company. With an atmosphere and selection almost as diverse as Olympia itself, one is sure to end the night a happy camper.
