Single Airmen living in the dorms on McChord Field can expect to receive a delivery of a dozen homemade cookies in the next couple weeks as part of Operation Cookie Drive 2012.
The McChord Officers Spouses' and Enlisted Spouses' Clubs have spearheaded the yearly project since 2005.
In year's past, the drive had traditionally delivered the cookies around the holidays. But this year OSC and ESC leadership decided to push the drive back a bit due to the fact Airmen were likely already receiving goodie baskets from family and friends or were out of town when the cookies were delivered, said Nichole Call, an OSC board member who is helping coordinate this year's event.
"It's a great way for us to help keep their morale at a high level after the holidays," Call said.
Last year, the drive produced more than 4,000 cookies that were put into 395 bags.
"We also put about 100 dozen into overseas care packages," Call added. "We're hoping those numbers continue to grow this year."
OSC and ESC members were also able to deliver trays of cookies to the base's gate guards, fire department, the United Service Organization's McChord Center, the Child Development Center and other base entities.
Those who would like to contribute to the cookie drive can drop homemade cookies off at the McChord Chapel Support Center from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 26 and from 7 to 10 a.m. Jan. 27.
There will likely be more than enough chocolate chip cookies, so members are asking for people to bake all kinds of different cookies, with some of the focus directed on Valentine's Day.
The groups are also seeking volunteers to help bag the cookies on Jan. 27 at the Chapel Support Center. Students from Carter Lake Elementary and the McChord CDC have decorated bags with a Valentine's Day theme especially for the drive.
Once all the cookies are packaged, the First Sergeants Club will then delivers the bags to dorm residents.
